Confrontation
Three Representations of the World

Born in 1959 in Louvain, Cécile Bruynoghe is a self-taught visual artist, having first earned a First Prize in music theory at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Coming from an artistic background, she was immersed in painting and music from an early age.

Her first works, created in gouache, explored dreams and the imagination. After a pause, she resumed creating by experimenting with blind drawing, which led to her exhibition "Seeing Means Closing Your Eyes." She then turned to pastels, acrylics, and charcoal, drawing inspiration from real landscapes and fleeting memories.

In this exhibition, she presents works where tension and harmony intertwine: a subtle unease emerges in the flight of birds or a shadowed corner, balanced by the surrounding light. Her vivid, energetic brushstrokes and the delicate interplay of tones and colors reveal a musical sensitivity that leaves a lasting impression on both eye and mind.

Née en 1959 à Louvain, Cécile Bruynoghe est une artiste plasticienne autodidacte, ayant d’abord obtenu un Premier Prix de théorie musicale au Conservatoire royal de Brussels. Issue d’un milieu artistique, elle a baigné dès son plus jeune âge dans la peinture et la musique.

Ses premières œuvres, réalisées à la gouache, exploraient les rêves et l’imaginaire. Après une pause, elle a repris son travail créatif en expérimentant le dessin à l’aveugle, ce qui a donné naissance à son exposition « Seeing Means Closing Your Eyes ». Elle s’est ensuite tournée vers le pastel, l’acrylique et le fusain, puisant son inspiration dans des paysages réels et des souvenirs fugaces.

Dans cette exposition, elle présente des œuvres où tension et harmonie s’entrelacent : un malaise subtil affleure dans l’envol d’oiseaux ou un coin d’ombre, contrebalancé par la lumière environnante. Ses touches vives et énergiques, ainsi que le jeu délicat des tons et des couleurs, révèlent une sensibilité musicale qui laisse une impression durable, à l’œil comme à l’esprit.

Cécile Bruynoghe, geboren in 1959 in Louvain, is een autodidactisch beeldend kunstenaar die eerst een Eerste Prijs muziektheorie behaalde aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussels. Afkomstig uit een artistiek milieu, groeide ze van jongs af aan op tussen schilderkunst en muziek.

Haar eerste werken, gemaakt in gouache, verkenden dromen en verbeelding. Na een onderbreking hervatte ze haar creatieve werk door te experimenteren met blind tekenen, wat leidde tot haar tentoonstelling “Seeing Means Closing Your Eyes”. Daarna wendde ze zich tot pastel, acryl en houtskool, met als inspiratiebron reële landschappen en vluchtige herinneringen.

In deze tentoonstelling toont ze werken waarin spanning en harmonie zich vervlechten: een subtiele onrust schemert door in de vlucht van vogels of een beschaduwde hoek, in evenwicht gebracht door het omringende licht. Haar levendige, energieke penseelvoering en het fijnzinnige samenspel van tonen en kleuren getuigen van een muzikale gevoeligheid die zowel het oog als de geest blijvend beroert.
